Who are we? Sebastian Kolowa Memorial University (SEKOMU) is a private University established in 2007 as Sebastian Kolowa University College (SEKUCo) under the umbrella of Tumaini University, Makumira. However, in 2012, it became a full-fledged University fully owned by the North Eastern Diocese (NED) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT). Its core function is to provide high quality teaching, research, consultancy and outreach to local communities and the nation.

The University is located in Lushoto District, at the heart of a small village called Magamba and shares its borders with the beautiful Usambara Mountains. It has a campus in Tanga that caters for people within that region and those wishing to enjoy warm coastal temperatures.

Vision: To be a leading African institution of higher learning that fully recognizes and actively professes the human value and dignity of all social members, including people with disabilities and whereby everyone is able to learn and live in harmony with GOD, fellow human being and all creation.

Mission: Our Mission is to provide high quality university level education that produces graduates who can integrate the needs, rights and potentials of people with different abilities into a holistic perspective of life and creation in various fields of expertise, build upon traditional knowledge simultaneously as we open creative ways for new and constructive innovations.

New Programmes Offered in 2013/14: In the academic year 2013/14 the University will launch a new unit called the Business Unit in Tanga, that will offer non-degree Programmes in Business. These are:

1. Certificate in Business Administration (1 year)
2. Diploma in Business Administration (2 years)

Our Directorates and Institutes: The University has one Directorate and two Institutes namely:

1. The Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Publications
2. Institute of Justice and Peace
3. Institute of Diaconic Studies

Our Directorate accommodates our recently introduced Masters of Education in Special Education (MEdSE) Programme. The Directorate and Institutes work closely with other University organs to provide tailor-made courses, consultancies, research and outreach programmes to suit you and your needs. We work closely with surrounding communities engaging in works of advocacy, awareness creation and emancipation of the least advantaged.
